Geoscape Release 7 to support wireless and wireline telecoms analysis
Callpoint Spatial – PSMA Geoscape Release 7 will provide significant value add to the telco industry.
The latest Geoscape release by PSMA has enhanced Callpoint’s capacity to support its telecommunications customers, including wireless network operators.
PSMA’s Geoscape® – which combines advances in satellite imagery, big data processing and machine learning to create a 3D representation of Australia’s built environment – now contains data on 14.5 million buildings across the nation.
With Release 7, Geoscape includes buildings data for 27 new regions including Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Tamworth, Orange, Mildura and Wangaratta. All Australian capital cities and most major urban areas are now covered.
Geoscape provides a digital representation of each building, comprising a two-dimensional (2D) roof outline. Three-dimensional (3D) attributes which are featured in urban areas include average eave height and maximum roof height. A key feature of this spatial dataset is the built-in links to PSMA’s Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF), CadLite and Administrative Boundaries datasets.
Geoscape also includes Surface Cover as a raster dataset, with 11 different surface cover classifications such as grass, trees, water, bare earth and road. For pixels identified from satellite imagery as tree coverage, a separate Tree raster dataset is provided, and this includes a tree height value for each two metre by two metre cell.
Callpoint Spatial has utilised Geoscape to support applications designed for its wireless telecoms customers since PSMA originally launched the dataset in December 2016. In fact, Callpoint Spatial placed the very first Geoscape order received by PSMA.
For wireless providers considering or already deploying 5G, Geoscape’s rich vector data significantly enhances RF modelling and coverage planning. Geoscape also has direct application within fixed wireless line-of-sight service prequalification.
For telecoms carriers that provide broadband over their own fibre-optic cables, Geoscape delivers the next stage in Prequalification precision. By incorporating building vector representations into the overall process, false positives and false negatives can be considerably reduced.
